Hi, I'm Alex.

I'm a Registered Dietitian with a love for people, food and helping others feel their best. With over 15 years' experience across private and public healthcare sectors, I've come to one belief: good nutrition should be practical, enjoyable and suited to the unique demands of your life.

I opened my practice on the Hilton College campus in January 2024, where I live with my husband James and our son Finn.

It's not just about the number on the scale.

You could lose ten kilograms and still feel awful. Nutrition is just the beginning. I look at the bigger picture: your energy, sleep, stress and movement, to help you build lasting health.

Questions I hear most.

Your health deserves qualified, evidence-based advice. Ask a Registered Dietitian!

What does a dietitian actually do?

A Registered Dietitian is a qualified health professional who uses nutrition science to help you prevent and manage health conditions. By considering your health, lifestyle and goals, I help you improve energy, support performance and build a positive relationship with food, so you can feel your best and develop habits that last. It's not about handing you a strict diet sheet.

What's the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

In South Africa, dietitian is a protected title. A dietitian has a four-year degree, completes community service and must be registered with the HPCSA, so the advice is held to a professional standard. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. Some are well qualified, some aren't, so it's always worth asking.

Are carbs bad for you?

No. Carbohydrates are your body's main source of energy, and wholegrains, fruit, vegetables and legumes bring fibre and nutrients with them. What matters is the type and the portion. Cutting out a whole food group usually doesn't last, and it isn't necessary.

Will eating eggs every day raise my cholesterol?

For most people, no. The cholesterol in eggs has far less effect on your blood cholesterol than saturated fat does. An egg a day can be part of a healthy diet. If you have a specific condition, let's look at your full picture together.

Do I need supplements, or should I focus on food?

Food first, almost always. A varied diet gives you nutrients in a form your body uses well. Some people do need a supplement, for example in pregnancy or with certain conditions, and I'll tell you if you're one of them. It's best to ask before you buy.
